Wizz Air reports 10% reduction in CO2 emissions per passenger km in April 2023
Wizz Air Holdings (WIZZ.L) reported a 10% reduction in CO2 emissions per passenger kilometer for the month of April 2023. The airline recorded 51.3 grams of CO2 per passenger/km, which is 10% lower than the same month last year.
Passenger growth and capacity increase for the rolling 12 months
For the rolling 12 months, Wizz Air reported a passenger growth of 72.9%, with a load factor of 88.4%, an increase of 9.1 percentage points. The airline increased its capacity, measured in seats, by 55.1%.
Wizz Air invests in sustainable aviation fuel
On the corporate front, Wizz Air announced a £5 million investment in Firefly, a biofuel company, marking its first equity investment in sustainable aviation fuel research and development. The airline plans to use SAF for its operations from 2028, with up to 525,000 tonnes over 15 years.
Wizz Air expands network
Wizz Air also expanded its network by adding one more aircraft to the Kutaisi, Georgia base, bringing the total fleet to four aircraft. The airline inaugurated the first flights from Sofia, Bulgaria, and Naples, Italy to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and connected Rome, Italy to Cairo, Egypt. Wizz Air also added more destinations from Brasov, Romania to the UK and Germany.
Shares in Wizz Air Holdings were up 2.58% at 3,099p as of 1056 BST.
