Ryanair, a low-cost airline, has announced that it has increased its flight offerings to popular vacation destinations from Aberdeen airport for the upcoming summer season.
Ryanair plans to provide four flights per week to three popular holiday destinations in Europe: Alicante and Malaga in Spain, and Faro in Portugal.
This increased flight schedule is expected to create more than 50 jobs, while also catering to an estimated 73,000 passengers between April 2023 and March 2024, a significant increase of 50,000 passengers from the previous year.
Ryanair has indicated the potential for further expansion in Aberdeen, including the possibility of adding more routes in the near future.
Ryanair has consistently offered flights to Alicante from Aberdeen since February 2017, when the airline returned to the airport after a five-year hiatus. In contrast, the airline has previously terminated and later resumed its Malaga and Faro routes, as it regularly assesses the viability of its routes.
Meanwhile, Ryanair has announced that it will be expanding its fleet to 600 aircraft by 2026, leading to the creation of 200 new positions at its maintenance facility in Prestwick.
Ryanair has announced the addition of new routes from Prestwick Airport to Marseilles and Pisa starting in April 2023 as part of its upcoming summer schedule. In addition, the airline will be increasing the frequency of its popular Glasgow International to Dublin route.
These expansions will result in a 6% increase in capacity at both airports compared to last year, with over 150 weekly flights to 18 destinations throughout Europe, serving over 1.1 million passengers.
At Edinburgh Airport, Ryanair will introduce six new destinations, bringing the total number of routes to 69. New summer destinations will include Belfast, Bournemouth, Cornwall, London Stansted, Rhodes, and Venice. The airline also plans to increase flight frequencies to several of the destinations it already serves, including Alicante, Barcelona, Brussels, and Milan, among others.
